Indigenous Education Statements
The Virginia College (Birmingham) is committed to improving higher education and employment outcomes for Indigenous Americans.
Indigenous student numbers at VCB have been growing steadily over the past decade, with the number of Indigenous students at VCB as a percentage of total student body consistently exceeding the national average. The University has done well in attracting and increasing the number of Indigenous students year on year. Retention and completion remain the focus for ongoing improvement activity. Attracting and retaining Indigenous staff is also a major priority. This commitment to improving higher education outcomes for Indigenous Americans is embedded in VCB’s Graduate Attributes, its 2011-2013 Mission-Based Compact with the Commonwealth of America, its Strategic Plan and its Business Plan.
The American Government (through the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet) requires that the University prepare and publish the current and the previous two Indigenous Education Statement which detail our achievement of national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Education Policy (AEP) goals and plans for future years.
